What Exactly Is A Light Sensor?
The light sensor on any mobile phone does exactly what the name suggests, detects light. This feature enables your device to recognise when you are on a call. When your on a call your device is pressed against your ear, this blocks out the light and disables the functionality of the screen. Try it yourself, make a call and press your thumb over the sensor area (just above the earpiece). The screen will black out, when you remove your thumb, the display will automatically switch back on.
iPhone Light Sensor Repair
On the iPhone, the light sensor it attached to other integrated electrical components, connected together by a flex cable (including the front camera). The new sensor can be installed with relative ease and will prevent any interaction with your touch module while making calls. In some instances, especially with iPhones, the sensor is enclosed in a small plastic guide to help keep it in the correct position. This is vital as the screen itself has two tiny openings thats have to be aligned perfectly with the sensor to expose the receptors to light and dark. If the guide becomes dislodged and moved just a millimetre, the sensor may just need to be reset into the correct place. Is actually very uncommon for the sensor to get damaged on its own, much like the sim tray holder, once its inserted inside it would be very difficult to break. Usually the sensor component will get knocked out of place or get damaged when broken shards of glass protrude inwards and touch the sensor.
